Spencer Fournell joins the Cal State Fullerton coaching staff for the 2019-20 season as he enters his ninth year of coaching. He has spent three years at the collegiate level and five years at the club and high school level.
Fournell is currently Coach for Sunshine Volleyball club and just recently led his 18's club team to a Gold at Junior Nationals. He is also very involved with USA Volleyball having been selected to coach at the boys high performance A3 select camp and girls high performance skills camp this summer as well as being in the gym with the Women’s National team as a practice player and help run drills.
He previously coached at Coker College in South Carolina as the Assistant Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Coach playing a pivotal role in recruiting for both programs. He helped the women's team to a 14-17 record making the SAC Conference tournament in school history. One of his players was named to the All-Conference Team. He helped coached the men's team to a 13-10 overall record, a team that included the Coker College Male Athlete of the Year, Independent Volleyball Association Player of the Year, two All-Conference selections, and three IVA All-Tournament Team selections despite only having six players on the roster. His team ranked fourth in aces per set in the entire NCAA. Both the Men’s and Women’s teams were awarded AVCA All-Academic for the 2017-18 year.
Prior to coaching, Fournell earned his Bachelor's degree in sports management from Belmont Abbey College where he was the team captain on the court in his junior and senior years. Before transferring to Belmont Abbey, he started two years as an outside hitter and middle blocker at El Camino College earning Second Team All-Conference in his sophomore year. Fournell was a three-year varsity starter at Redondo Union High School playing middle blocker earning All-Bay League his senior year.
He currently resides in Redondo Beach, California.
