FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton fell to the California Golden Bears 2-0 in an exhibition match to start the 2017 season, Monday evening at Titan Stadium.
The Titans weren't able to put a ball in the back of the net but they did get off 11 shots in the game while getting six shots on goal. Junior midfielder Ross McPhie fired off three shots with two being on goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper Paul-Andre Guerin made some great saves for the Titans even while allowing two goals on the night. Guerin tallied total of five saves on the night in 90 minutes of action.
Fullerton's offense picked up significantly in the second half as they were able to get seven shots off while recording six corner kicks compared to California's four.
Cal's Samuel Ebstein scored the Bears first goal in the 49th minute of action while Spencer Held tacked on the second goal in the 66th minute.
Because it was a friendly match, the two teams elected to play extra 20 minutes after the end of regulation. Sophomore goalkeeper Chris Castillo stepped in net in the extra time and was able to keep the the Golden Bears off the board for the remainder of the game.
The Titans next game will be Saturday at 11 a.m. against the Fullerton Alumni team.
