FULLERTON, Calif. -- Cal State Fullerton sophomore midfielder Ian Ramos was named the Big West Conference's Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon after his offensive exploits helped lead the Titans' men's soccer team to an unbeaten week with wins over Cal State Northridge and UC Riverside.
Ramos, who entered the week with two goals and three assists for seven points, finished with four goals and assist in the wins over the nationally ranked Matadors and Highlanders, including a second-half hat trick against Northridge that brought the Titans all the way back from a 4-1 deficit.
After the Matadors netted their fourth goal just seconds into the second half, Ramos scored twice just seven minutes apart to bring Fullerton to within a goal and, after teammate Jameson Campbell tied the score, tacked on the game-winner for good measure with a penalty kick in the 71st minute.
Three nights later in the Inland Empire, the Utah native added a goal and an assist in the Titans' 3-2 double-overtime win over UC Riverside, scoring on another penalty kick with five minutes remaining in regulation that gave Fullerton the lead before the Highlanders knotted the score with a goal in the final 13 seconds. He also assisted on Campbell's first goal of the match in the 69th minute to complete the nine-point weekend, putting six of his seven shots on frame.
Ramos now stands second on the team with six goals and 15 points while sharing the lead with three assists and pacing the squad with 32 shots.
Fullerton returns to the Titan Stadium pitch on Saturday night (Oct. 27) at 7 p.m. as the Titans play host to Orange County rival UC Irvine, looking to avenge a 2-1 loss to the Anteaters back on Oct. 13 in Irvine.
