UC Irvine Defeats Men’s Basketball

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's basketball fell to 0-2 in Big West Conference play on Saturday after falling to UC Irvine by a score of 63-46 in the team's first home conference matchup of the season.

The game was tied for the first 44 seconds then the Anteaters (14-4, 2-0 BWC) took the lead and did not relinquish it. The Anteaters shot 25-58 (43.1 percent) from the floor, 6-16 (37.5 percent) from three and 7-8 (87.5 percent) at the stripe. Defensively, UCI got the job done as it blocked six shots on the night including five in the first half. It also had six steals and forced 12 turnovers.

Junior guard Austen Awosika led the team with 17 points and he hauled in four rebounds. Senior guards Kyle Allman, Jr. and Khalil Ahmad (seven rebounds) each chipped in nine points.

The Titans shot just 5-27 (18.5 percent) from the field in the first half, 0-6 from beyond the arc and 2-5 from the charity stripe. For the game, CSF totaled 17-54 (31.5 percent) overall, 0-11 from three and 12-19 (63.2) from three. 

Fullerton returns to Titan Gym on Thursday at 7 p.m. PT against UC Riverside.
