Seabold Named to USA Baseball Premier12 Roster

DURHAM, N.C. – Former Cal State Fullerton standout and current pitcher in the Philadelphia Phillies minor league system, Connor Seabold, has earned a spot on the USA Baseball Premier12 Roster, the organization announced Thursday. 

"It's an honor to be picked, let alone be considered, to represent the USA in this year's olympic qualifier," Seabold said. "Getting to play with and against some of the best talent from around the world is about the coolest experience one can have. I'm excited to get started and excited to compete for a spot in the olympics next year." 

In his minor league career thus far, Seabold has an 11-10 record with a 3.52 ERA, 203 strikeouts and an impressive 1.06 WHIP in 196.2 innings pitched. Seabold has been in the Phillies organization since behind drafted in the third round in 2017. 

During his three seasons as a Titan, Seabold had a record of 23-15 with one save and three complete games along with a 2.89 ERA in 280 innings pitched. Seabold ranks ninth all-time with 294 career strikeouts and fourth all-time with 9.45 strikeouts per nine innings. Additionally, he ranks sixth in fewest walks per nine innings at 1.41 and third in strikeout to walk ratio at 6.7, recording 294 strikeouts with just 44 walks. 

The 28-man roster is made up of 15 pitchers and 13 position players currently not on an MLB 40-man roster, and features six former national team alumni and seven of the MLB Pipeline top-100 prospects. 

The U.S. will begin the WBSC Premier12™ in Guadalajara, Mexico, from November 2-4 as a member of Group A with the Dominican Republic, Mexico and the Netherlands. The top two nations from Group A will advance to the Super Round in Tokyo from November 11-16.

The tournament is the first opportunity for Team USA to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The top finisher from both the Americas territory and Asia/Oceania territory (excluding Japan) will join host-country Japan and WBSC Baseball Europe/Africa Olympic Qualifier champion Israel in the six-team Olympic tournament. The final two Olympic berths will be decided in March 2020.
