CLEVELAND – Matt Chapman will compete in the 2019 Home Run Derby Monday night at Progessive Field in Cleveland as he replaces the Brewers' Christian Yelich. Chapman will compete against Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the first round.
Chapman was also chosen by his fellow players as a reserve on the American League All-Star team. This is Chapman's first all-star appearance in just his second full MLB season. The former Titan quickly cemented his status as one of the best defensive players in the league, winning every fielding award that exists in the majors. In 2018 he finished seventh in the AL MVP voting.
So far in 2019 Chapman is batting .265 with a .353 on-base percentage and a .534 slugging to go along with 52 RBI and 21 home runs. His 21 home runs ranks 14th in the MLB.
The 2019 Major League Baseball Home Run Derby is Monday, July 8 at 5:00 p.m. PT and will be aired on ESPN. The All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday, July 9 and will be broadcast live on FOX starting at 4:30 p.m. PT.
