FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton (16-22, 4-7) was unable to overcame an early deficit to UC Irvine (28-9, 10-4) Saturday night at Goodwin Field as they fell 7-4.
The Titans trailed 6-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh and made a valiant effort at a comeback as they scored two runs in the seventh and eighth inning but ultimately came up short to the Anteaters.
Mitchell Berryhill continued his dominance as he went 1-for-3 at the plate with one run and was hit by a pitch to extend his on-base streak to 47 consecutive games which is the longest active streak in the nation. Berryhill is now hitting .452 at the plate which also ranks first in the country.
Fullerton's bullpen was fantastic Saturday night as they gave up just two runs in six innings. Dillon Brown pitched 2.2 innings and allowed just four hits and one run. Brown has a team best 1.48 ERA in 24.1 innings pitched.
Fullerton returns to Goodwin Field Sunday looking to salvage one game out of the series against UC Irvine. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. PT Sunday afternoon.
