SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton (13-14, 2-3) fell to Cal Poly (13-15, 4-1) by a final score of 5-3 Saturday night at Baggett Stadium.
The Titans gave up runs in three consecutive inning to Cal Poly in the second third and fourth and were unable to overcome the five run deficit. Fullerton fought hard to come back, scoring two runs in the eighth and one run in the ninth but ultimately came up short.
Mitchell Berryhill had one of his best games as a Titan, going 3-for-3 at the plate with one walk, one run and a RBI. Berryhill is now hitting .421 on the season which ranks first in the Big West Conference.
In just his second weekend back from injury, Daniel Cope continues to impress as he hit 2-for-3 at the plate Saturday night with a triple and one run. Cope is now hitting .310 on the season.
Kyle Luckham started on the mound for the Titans and went four innings, giving up eight hits and five runs (four earned) while striking out four batters. Timothy Josten come on in relief in the fifth inning and was lights out for the rest of the game, not allowing a single hit to retire the final 12 batters.
The Titans and Mustangs return to Baggett Stadium Sunday for the rubber game. First pitch of Sunday's contest is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. PT.
