FULLERTON, Calif. – Head coach John Elders announced the Cal State Fullerton men's and women's cross country schedule for the 2019 season on Monday.
The season begins on Sat., Aug. 31 for the Titans by hosting the Mark Covert Classic at the Carbon Canyon Regional Park in Brea, Calif. The first race will begin at 8:30 a.m. PT
Fullerton will then head to San Diego for the USD Invite on Fri., Sep. 13 and the Mustang Challenge in Santa Clarita on Sat., Sep. 28.
Elders' squad will then head to Notre Dame to compete in the Joe Piane Invitational against a quality field on Fri., Oct. 4.
The men's and women's teams will then go to Riverside for the UCR Highlander Invitational on Sat., Oct. 19.
On Oct. 25, the squad will host the Titan Invite in a race that is designed to run through the Cal State Fullerton campus. The first race is set to begin at 5 p.m. PT.
To begin championship season, CSF will once again return to UC Riverside for the Big West Championships on Nov. 2.
Elders and the squads then head to Washington for the NCAA West Regionals at Colfax Golf Course in Colfax on Nov. 15. Should any individual student-athletes or teams qualify, the NCAA Championships will be held on Nov. 23 at LaVern Gibson Course in Terre Haute, Ind.
In 2018, the women posted a program-best second-place finish at the Big West Championships. Samantha Huerta's 6K time of 21:26.5 was good for second place overall which is tied for the best individual performance at the conference championships in program history. Heather Killeen earned a runner-up finish as well in 1992. Trinity Ruelas finished in sixth place at 21:50.4, Lucina Vincent was eighth with a time of 21:59.4 and Sandra Flores took ninth at 22:03.3. Each of those four runners earned all-conference accolades for finishing in the top-10. Vincent was also named Big West Co-Freshman of the Year.
On the men's side, they took third place for the third year in a row. Samuel Pimentel led the way in 12th place for CSF with an 8K time of 25:02.2 and shortly behind him was Jorge Sanchez with a time of 25:06.5 to take 14th place. Anthony Alfaro's time of 25:27.3 was good for 21st place while Erick Juarez (25:55.9) took 31st place and Uriel Medina(25:57.9) took 32nd as the final Titan scorer.
