SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's and women's cross country wrapped up the season on Friday at the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento. The women's squad earned an 11th-place finish, led by Samantha Huerta who took 27th place. The men earned a 20th-place finish overall, led by Jorge Sanchez.
The women's squad finished in 11th place with 316 points, the best team finish since the 1995 squad also took 11th place. Oregon won the 44 points, Boise State had 49 in second place and Stanford tallied 95 points in third place.
Huerta took 27th place to lead the Titans with a 6K time of 20:23.4. It is the best individual finish for Titan since Grace Gonzales took 25th place in 2008. Trinity Ruelas was 51st with a time of 21:01.8 and Co-Big West Freshman of the Year Lucina Vincent was 57th at 21:06.0. Gabrielle De La Rosa was 94th with a time of 21:33.8 and Sandra Flores was the final scorer in 97th place with a mark of 21:37.1.
For the men, Fullerton finished in 20th place overall with 601 points. Portland scored 77 points to win, Washington tallied 82 points to win and Boise State had 102 points in third place.
Sanchez led the men's team with a 96th-place finish at 31:30 in the 10,000-meter race. Edgard Villa (116th; 31:56.4), Jacob Smith (122nd; 32:03.1), Uriel Medina (143rd; 32:34.5) and Anthony Alfaro (148th; 32:39.7) were the other four scorers for the Titans. None of the six Titan runners were seniors and all are set to return next season.
