LOS ANGELES - Former Cal State Fullerton wrestler T.J. Dillashaw dominated Cody Garbrandt for the second straight time on Saturday, knocking him out in the first round to retain the UFC bantamweight title Saturday night at UFC 227 inside Staples Center.
Dillashaw used a flurry of punches to earn the knockout as he retained his belt. His overall record improves to 16-3, while he's now 8-1 in knockout fights.
During the shortened fight, Dillashaw pummeled his rival, connecting on 51 strikes and recording two knockdowns. Garbrandt connected on just 17 strikes.
"I just beat him at his own game," said Dillashaw following the fight.
Dillashaw has now won four consecutive fights with his last two coming against Garbrandt.
The Sonora, Calif. native was quite possibly one of the best Titan wrestlers of all-time. He was a three-time NCAA qualifier had two top-four finishes at the Pac-10 Championships during his career. During his career, he was ranked as high as 10th in the country.
