A Pair of Titans Earn All-Conference Nods

Nov. 23, 2005

Fullerton, Calif. - Sophomore Vanessa Vella earned first-team All Big West Conference honors while teammate Brittany Moore made the Big West All-Freshman team as announced by the Irvine-based conference office Tuesday afternoon.

Vella (5-9, L, Castro Valley, Calif.), just the third Titan to ever receive a first-team nod, has taken the libero position and has made it her own. Last season, as a freshman, she set the school record for digs at 479 only to shatter it with 581 this season. Vella has been in the top 25 in the nation in digs per game and will likely finish there, wrapping up 2005 at 5.33 scoops per game. In just her second season in a Titan uniform, Vella has already surpassed the 1,000-dig mark and, barring any major setbacks, will break the school record for digs sometime in mid 2006.

Moore (5-11, OH/MB, Orange Calif.) becomes tenth Titan to join the all-freshman team since the inaugural team was announced in 1986. Moore's .310 hitting percentage led the team, and kept her in the conference top ten a majority of the season. She not only hit for percentage, but led the Titans with 104 total blocks and 13 solos.

Vella and Moore will both be nominated for all-regional teams with the honorees being announced by the AVCA on Dec. 7.
