Saddler Wins Second Career Player of the Week Award
Sept. 21, 2009
Irvine, Calif. - Erin Saddler (Bellflower, Calif.) was again instrumental to the Titans success this past weekend, recording her fifth and sixth double-doubles (kills-digs) of the year while leading the Titans to a stunning upset over nationally-ranked UCLA and a win over Fordham. For her performances, Saddler was named the Big West Conference Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 20.
On Friday night, Saddler led all players with a 20-kill aerial assault over the seventh-ranked Bruins as she led her Titans to their first-ever win over a ranked opponent in school history. The win also snapped a 14-match unbeaten streak with UCLA dating back to 1980. She added two aces, 11 digs and a pair of block assists in the five-set victory.
On Saturday, the Big West's leading hitter continued with a 16-kill, 10-dig performance to hand Fullerton its second consecutive win, and third out of their last four.
The junior outside hitter was awarded the Embassy Suites Fullerton Classic MVP Award for her effort. It was her second MVP honor of the year.
On the weekend, Saddler averaged 4 kills and 2.33 digs per set. She has collected 11-or-more kills in all but one match this season.
This is Saddler's second career Player of the Week honor. She joins Becky Howlett and Brittany Moore as the only three Titans to have earned multiple weekly awards. This week's award is just the 13th time in school hstory a Titan has taken home the weekly accolade.
