Fullerton, Calif. - UTEP's Kari Stacy had 13 kills as the Miners defeated the UMKC Kangaroos 3-0 in the first game of the Four Points Titan Classic Friday afternoon at Titan Gymnasium. The Miners improve to 5-0 while the Kangaroos drop to 0-4 on the season.
UTEP controlled most of the momentum for all three games as they hit .299 to UMKC's .079 while they also out- set, out-aced, out-dug and out-blocked the Kangaroos. The Kansas City hit .219 in the first game before getting shut out from the floor hitting .000 in games two and three.
Stacy led all players with 13.5 total points collecting a block assist and 3 digs in the winning effort. Brittany Stowers (9) and Jaymie Swift (8) led the team defensively with 15 digs between the two of them.
UMKC's Lauren Starks led the Kangaroos in kills with eight, despite hitting just .033 in the match. Heather Towles led in hitting percentage at .444 picking up four kills in nine attempts. Angela Melka and Mandy Tipton collected 5 digs a piece to lead the team.
Cal State Fullerton will take on Marist in the second game of the tournament this evening at 5:30 p.m.
