Volleyball Gets Noticed for 2008 Recruiting Efforts
July 9, 2008
West Linn, Oregon - For the first time in the history of the program, Cal State Fullerton volleyball's recruiting class was recognized with an honorable mention nod in PrepVolleyball.com's Top Recruiting classes of 2008, released Tuesday afternoon by the online pollster.
PrepVolleyball.com provides one of two off-season polls that rank recruiting classes across the country, the other being Volleyball Magazine.
Carolyn Zimmerman's Titans join traditional Big West Conference volleyball powerhouses, Long Beach State (No. 10), Cal Poly (No. 21) and UC Santa Barbara (honorable mention) on the list with their addition of freshmen Courtney Curran (6-0, MB/OH, Wilson HS, Long Beach, CA); Jennifer Edmond (5-10, RS, Bishop Montgomery HS, Torrance, CA); Sydney McDowell (6-2, MB, Placer HS, Mission Viejo, CA); Andrea Ragan (5-6, S, Nipomo HS, Arroyo Grande, CA); Wendy Rolph (6-0, OH, Burroughs HS, Burbank, CA); and Stephanie Sommer (5-3, DS, Lighthouse Christian Academy, Pacific Palisades, CA) to the squad.
The poll is comprised from information received from head coaches around the country representing every major conference at the Div. I level and also some Div. II and Div. III coaches as well. The assessment was based on the cumulative impact the group would make over a 4-5 year period of time, and did not include the player's immediate impact or any four-year school transfers.
Fullerton is amidst its best four-year period in the program's 32-year history in terms of overall and league wins.
