No. 18-Ranked USD Denies Titans Winning Season

Fullerton, Calif. - Christie Dawson had 18 kills and Laurel Abrahamson added 17 more Tuesday night to lead No. 18-ranked University of San Diego to a 3-1 non-conference women's volleyball victory over host Cal State Fullerton. The 17-30, 22-30, 30-28, 24-30 loss ended the Titans' season at 14-15 overall. USD improved to 22-5 and put itself in a better position for an NCAA Tournament bid. The Toreros are tied for second in the West Coast Conference at 10-4. Senior Alyssa Opeka had 17 kills in her final Titan Gym appearance for Fullerton. Brittany Moore added 13 kills and Danielle Hitzeman had 12. USD hit .370 for the match to .192 for Fullerton. Vanessa Vella had 14 digs to finish the year with a CSF school record 581, shattering her mark of 479 set last season. Opeka had 2 block assists to bring her career total to 287, breaking Stephanie Scofield's record of 282 set in 1988-91. |
