Fullerton, Calif. - Behind Danielle Hitzeman's 12 kills and 11 digs Cal State Fullerton came out on top for the first time in over three weeks as the Titans swept UC Davis 3-0 (30-18, 30-14, 30-27) in a non-conference match Saturday night at Titan Gym.
Fullerton, who's last win came on Sept. 30 against the same Aggie team in Davis, snapped it's six game losing streak and improved to 12-11 on the season. The Aggies dropped to 3-21.
Hitzeman, along with Alyssa Opeka, combined for 23 kills on the night as the Titans out-hit the Aggies .270 to -.009. The Aggies hit better than .000 only once, and that was in the final game where they managed to hit at a .122 clip. Fullerton hit a match high .448 in the second game of the night leading to their largest margin of victory at 30-14.
Hitzeman led the Titans with a .345 hitting percentage, and collected her sixth double-double of the season. She also served up three aces.
The Aggies collected only 25 kills on the night with Chantal Paschetta emerging as the team leader with nine. The Aggies could not get through the Titan wall, as Fullerton out-blocked the Davis air attack 9-3. Brittany Moor led all players with 10, while fellow Titan Opeka tallied four of her own.
Vanessa Vella moved one step closer to breaking her own single-season dig record as she had a game-high 12 digs. She stands just 16 digs shy of the record.
Amy Dixon, in a rare start, collected a career-high six aces for the service line whil picking up three blocks (including one solo). She also hit .333 with four kills in nine attempts.
Fullerton heads back out on the road for two games up north. The Titans head to Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara for a pair of 7 p.m. matches next Friday and Saturday. Saturday night's game will feature the Titans and Gauchos on CSTV in their game of the Week. Check your local listings for game times and channels.
