Fullerton, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton volleyball team's woes continued as they dropped their sixth straight game Saturday night at the Alex Spanos Center in Stockton, Calif. Pacific's Ashley Groothius pounded out 19 kills while hitting .311 as the Tigers downed the Titans 3-1 (17-30, 30-24, 30-22, 30-15) after dropping the first game to the Titans.
Fullerton hit .444 in game one but was unable to do better than .182 the remaining three games as Pacific continually got better hitting .552 in its final frame. The Titans six game losing streak is the longest since losing the final six games of the 2003 season.
Pacific improves to 11-9 overall and 5-3 in Big West Conference play. With the loss, the Titans drop to .500 for the first time since the second game of the season. They stand at 11-11 overall and 3-6 in league.
Sarah Morrison (14) and Brittany Moore (10) were the only Titans to crack the 10-kill mark, with Vanessa Vella (17) and Danielle Hitzeman (10) surpassing the mark in digs. Morrison's 14 kills and .333 attack percentage led the team. Vella's 17 digs led all players.
Moore and setter Julie Geissert led the Fullerton squad in blocks with three apiece, with Moore tallying one solo stuff.
Pacific's Kara Uhl added 16 kills as the Tigers hit .331 overall as a team. Sidney Bennet also added 10 kills and hit .331 to round out the players collecting more than 10.
Groothius and Bennett both added 5 blocks each to lead all players with two of Groothius' coming alone.
Cal State Fullerton will look to bounce back at home and improve on its 7-3 home record. The Titans will have just one game in the coming week, as UC Davis will come south to visit the Titans in a non-conference match-up at Titan Gym on Oct. 29. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
