Long Beach, Calif. - Four 49ers scored 10-or-more kills as the Long Beach State 49ers swept the Cal State Fullerton Titans 3-0 (30-15, 30-16, 30-17) in a Big West Conference match in front of 1,925 fans at the Pyramid in Long Beach Friday night.
For the first time this season, no Titan had more than 10 kills as Long Beach State controlled every aspect of the match, including out-hitting Fullerton .393 to .035. The Titans fall to 11-8 overall and even their Big West Conference record at 3-3. Long Beach State improve to an impressive 13-4, 4-1. The loss is the Titans' 46th straight against the 49ers.
Danielle Hitzman led the Titans with seven kills hitting just .154 on the night while Long Beach completely shut down Fullerton's leading hitter Sarah Morrison. Morrison was held to a season-low three kills while hitting -.087 for the match.
Libero Vanessa Vella, who was averaging 5.58 digs per game and ranked 13th in the nation, collected just five digs the entire match.
Mariko Crumb, Alexis Crimes and Robin Miramontes each collected 11 kills to lead Long Beach with Ali Daly adding 10 kills of her own. Miramontes also added 14 digs to lead all players. Crimes dominated the net collecting six blocks including one solo.
Fullerton setter Julie Geissert led all Titans with two blocks.
Cal State Fullerton will return to conference play tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. as the Titans will travel to take on the Anteaters of UC Irvine.
