Titans Hand Aggies 11th Straight Loss with 3-1 Victory

Sept. 30, 2005

Box Score

Davis, Calif. - Sarah Morrison's 23 kills led the Titan attack as Cal State Fullerton rallied back after a game one loss to defeat UC Davis, 3-1 (25-30, 30-19, 30-26, 30-18), in a non-conference volleyball match at the ARC Pavilion in Davis, Calif. Friday night. The Titans pick up their fourth consecutive win, and sixth out of their last seven to improve to 11-5 overall, while the Aggies drop their 11th straight to fall to 2-14 on the year.

Morrison's 23 kills tied her career-high total that she set on Wednesday in the Titans' victory over UC Riverside. Morrison had just three errors in 63 attempts for a .313 hitting percentage on the night. The trio of Brittany Moore, Danielle Hitzeman and Breanna Trudeau each added 11 kills to the mix with Moore leading with a .296 percentage for Fullerton.

Davis' big hitter Chantal Paschetta matched Morrison's 23 kills while leading her team in hitting at .222. Paschetta also added 14 digs to pick up a double-double.

Both teams had five players with 11-or-more digs with Titan libero Vanessa Vella leading the pack with 33 on the match. As of the start of the week, Vella was 18th in the nation, while also pacing the Big West Conference with 5.45 digs per game. With her 33 scoops tonight she now has collected 30-or-more digs three times in her young career, and joins only three other Titans to ever hit the 30-dig plateau in any one match.

Brittany Moore and Amanda Pfielschiefter continue to be a mainstay at the net collecting three blocks (and one solo) apiece. Davis' Kelly Patterson led all players with four.

Fullerton setter Julie Geissert had another well-rounded game picking up 49 assists, 11 digs, two blocks, three aces and four kills (.333). Not to be outdone, Aggie setter Katelyn Astruc managed 50 assists, three aces, and 20 digs in the losing effort.

Fullerton returns home after a brief two came road trip to take on UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly in conference play at Titan Gym Friday and Saturday night. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. each night.
