Fullerton, Calif. - Lauren McLaughlin posted a match-high18 kills as UC Santa Barbara defeated Cal Sate Fullerton 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-18, 25-16) in a Big West Conference volleyball match-up at Titan Gym Saturday night.
Cal State Fullerton dropped its third consecutive contest and fourth in its last five to fall to 6-10 on the year and 0-2 in Big West play. Santa Barbara improves to 6-7, 2-0.
McLaughlin had just two errors on the night and hit .296 to guide the Gauchos to a team .225 attack percentage and a second consecutive Big West Conference victory. Charlene DeHoog also had a good offensive night, posting 13 kills in 40 swings.
Fullerton's one-two punch of Brittany Moore (12 kills) and Erin Saddler (10 kills) and its 12.0 to 7.0 team blocking advantage was not enough to sway the momentum away from UCSB. Moore finished with her sixth double-double of the season as she and Genie Francisco, Ashley Collier, Cami Criteau finished the night with 10-or-more digs.
Five Gauchos reached double digits in digs with Leigh Stephenson's 22 leading all players.
The Titans Deven Bukoski posted a season-high six blocks on the night to lead the floor. She and Alex Wolnisty each had a pair of solo blocks. Wolnisty finished right behind Bukoski with five blocks in the loss. Lily Lopez and Kasey Kipp paced the Gauchos with three block assists apiece.
The Titans next three matches will be on the road. The Titans will face UC Riverside (Oct. 3, 7:30 p.m.), UC Irvine (Oct. 4, 7 p.m.) and Cal State Northridge (Oct. 11, 7 p.m) on the road.
