Fullerton, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton's Erin Saddler earned her sixth double-double of the year and Kayla Neto had 12 kills and four blocks as the Titans downed Forham, 3-1, in the final match of the Embassy Suites Fullerton Classic at Titan Gym Saturday night.
The Titans, coming off a win over nationally-ranked UCLA on Friday night, improved to 9-3 on the year with the 25-16, 25-17, 20-25, 25-19 triumph and finished 2-0 in the tourney. Fordham was 0-3 in tournament play and fell to 8-7. Long Beach State also finished 2-0, while No. 7 UCLA finished 1-2, dropping games to the Titans and 49ers.
Saddler was named the tournament's most valuable player after collecting 16 kills and 10 digs, two aces and a block. Neto, a freshman, hit .455 with 12 kills and tied Fordham's Christi Griffiths with four blocks to lead all players. Neto, as well as Fullerton's Torrie Brown, were named to the all-tournament team as well.
Brown had 10 kills and four digs in the Titans' third win in the last four matches.
The Titans jumped out to a two-set-to-none lead, never relinquishing the lead through the break. Bu in set three, Fordham trailed by as many as three at 7-4, but rallied back to tie the match at 7-7, again at 10-10 and 11-11 before taking the lead for good. The Rams held the Titans to just an .081 attack percentage in the third set, their lowest of the night.
Andrea Ragan had a career-high five service aces Saturday night including three-consecutive within the first five serves of the match. The setter missed her own double-double by one dig while also adding 47 assists and a block assist.
Katie Wells, Fordham's all-tournament representative, and Kailee May each had 10 kills to pace the Rams' offense. Sara Friede and Fullerton's Cami Croteau paced the floor with 13 digs each.
The Titans will head back on the road for their final non-conference match with San Diego State on Sept. 23 before beginning Big West Conference action on Sept. 26 back in Titan Gym with Long Beach State.
