Fullerton, Calif. - Erin Saddler and Alex Wolnisty combined for 21 kills for Cal State Fullerton as the Titans beat Central Connecticut State 3-0 in match four of the Crowne Plaza Fullerton Volleyball Classic Saturday afternoon.
The Titans improve to 6-7 on the year and 1-1 in the tournament. The Blue Devils drop to 3-8 on the year and remain winless in the tourney.
With an exception early in set number three, Fullerton led the entire way in the match that lasted just one hour, 13 minutes. The Titans hit .314 and held the Blue Devils to just a .020 attack percentage.
The Titans defense was led by Cami Croteau who in addition to posting her match leading 11 digs, made numerous diving plays that resulted in Titan points. Wolnisty scored a team-leading four blocks (one solo) and Brittany Moore added three, including a pair of solos.
Wolnisty hit .600 on the afternoon picking up 10 kills, and was only eclipsed by Saddler who posted 11 for the Titans. Central Connecticut's Lauren Snyder paced the Bule Devil's offense with 10 kills in 33 swings.
Central Connecticut will come back in the 4:30 match to face San Francisco and Cal State Fullerton will close out the tournament against No. 9 Cal at 7 p.m.
THE MORNING MATCH: San Francisco (6-4) fell to No. 9 Cal (9-1), but played the nationally ranked Bears close for all three sets. The Bears won 25-23, 26-24, 26-24. Hana Cutura led the bears with 18 kills and a .533 attack percentage. USF's Sarah Mandala led the Dons' squad with 11 kills. The Bears hit .361 on the match and remained undefeated in the tournament. USF fell to 1-1.Cal's Mindi Wiley had eight block to lead all players as the Bears out-blocked the Dons 10.0 to 5.0. Box Score
