Las Vegas - Torrie Brown had 13 kills to lead Cal State Fullerton to its fifth sweep in its last six matches as the Titans took care of UNLV 25-20, 26-16, 25-17, Saturday night to wrap up the UNLV Invitational at the Cox Pavilion.
The Titans finished 2-1 in the invitational and improve to 6-3 on the year. UNLV drops to 3-6.
Leah Maurer, who played with UNLV in 2008 and 2009, had 11 kills, 4 digs, 2 blocks and hit .391 against her former team, in her first trip back to her former university. Maurer, Brown and Kayla Neto (10 kills, .625, 2 blocks) led the way offensively for the Titans who hit .368 as a team, committing just 9 attack errors on the night.
UNLV hit just .162 in the loss. Sara Nehf led the way for the Rebels with 12 kills.
Fullerton's Ayana Whitaker had a match-high 3 block assists and had support from Brown, Neto and Maurer who each provided 2 blocks apiece. Candice Thomas and Kelsey Keeler posted 2 blocks each for UNLV.
The Titans had a 42-33 advantage in the dig department and were led by Cami Croteau's 12 digs. Genie Francisco added 7 digs and two service aces to the cause. Kela Lau Hee tallied 11 digs for the home team.
The Titans return home to wrap up the tournament portion of their schedule. The Titans will host the Fullerton Classic presented by the Brea Embassy Suites Sept. 17-18 at Titan Gym. Fullerton welcomes Penn, West Virginia, Liberty and Yale in the unconventional 9-match tourney.
