CSF Bests USF 3-1 In Portland; Improve to 2-0 In Tourney

Portland, Ore. - Sarah Morrison and Brittany Moore hit the Titans to their second win of the day as they downed the University of San Francisco 3-1 in Game Four of the Crown Plaza Volleyball Showcase Friday night on the campus of Portland State.

Fullerton picked up their second road win of the year in as many games and improve to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the Showcase. USF, who picked up both their losses today, falls to 8-2 on the year and 0-2 in the tournament.

Senior outside hitter Sarah Morrison led a quartet of Titans with 10-or-more kills with 14. Alyssa Opeka and Danielle Hitzeman both tallied 12 while freshman Brittany Moore, collected 11 kills of her own and hit a team-leading .375 on the night.

USF's Kristen Hasselberg led all players with 22 kills and hit .312 en route to scoring a game-high 24 total points.

Amanda Pfielschiefter alone out-blocked the Dons as she stuffed 11 on the night including 2 solos, to USF's 8. The Titans, as a team, out-blocked the Dons 17-5.

The Titans dropped game one 25-30 as the the Dons out-hit them .425 to .214, but the team rallied back for three straight wins 30-28, 30-16 and 30-25. The Titans hit .306 in the match winner.

Coach Carolyn Zimmerman gave a lot of the credit to the Titan servers for taking the Dons out of their rhythm. Titans aced eight serves on the evening led by setter Julie Geissert who collected three with frshman Allison de la Puente adding two of her own.

Vanessa Vella, who was ranked No. 28 in digs per game in the country, collected a team high 16 digs in the Titans' second contest of the day.

Fullerton will return to Stott Center tomorrow at noon as they will take on the host Portland State in their third game of four scheduled in Oregon this weekend. At 5 p.m. the Titans will take on Oregon to finish tournament play.
