Los Angeles, Calif. - The 2006 Cal State Fullerton volleyball team will have to accept a tie with the 1985, `87 and `96 squads for best-ever start, as their run for a perfect 6-0 season came to an end Tuesday night as Loyola Marymount swept the Titans, 3-0, in Los Angeles.
The Titans drop their 12th match in a row to Loyola Marymount, and fall to 5-1 on the year. The Lions improve to 5-2 with the 34-32, 31-29, 30-22 victory.
The Titans pushed the Lions past 30 points in each of the first two games, but were unable to manage their serving effectively as 10 service errors on the night proved costly.
The Big West Conference's leader in attack percentage, Brittany Moore, collected 13 kills and hit .500 to lead the Titan offense that hit .226 as a team. Freshman Deven Bukoski also added 10 kills in the losing effort.
Emily Day led all players with 15 kills for the Lions, also collecting a match-leading 18 digs as well. Lions hit .313 on the night, including a game-high .417 in third and final game that saw LMU go on an 8-2 run and never look back.
Fullerton will travel to New Mexico as they are slated to participate in the Comcast Lobo Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Titans will square off with Dartmouth, UTEP and New Mexico. All three games will be tracked on Gametracker (link on fullertontitan.com), while Sunday's match against the Lobos will be broadcast live on New Mexico's website golobos.com.
