Fullerton, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton's Erin Saddler and Kayla Neto powered the Titans' offense to a 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-21) sweep of Colorado Saturday night to capture the Crowne Plaza Fullerton Titan Classic championship in Titan Gym.
Fullerton upped its overall record to 4-2 and finished the Classic without losing a set in three matches. Colorado evened its record at 3-3, concluding their West Coast trip with a 2-1 mark.
Though the Titans hit just .132 as a team, Saddler had 13 kills and Neto hit .318 (with 11 kills) to pace the squad offensively. Both Titans earned a spot on the all-tournament team with Saddler earning the MVP honors. Also joining on the post-tourney team was Cami Croteau, who collected 17 digs on the night.
Kerra Schroeder and Anicia Santos made the all-tournament team for Colorado and posted 10 kills apiece in the loss.
All three matches played fairly even with 10 service errors proving costly for the Buffaloes. There were 21 total tie scores and 11 lead changes in the match, with 13 of the ties coming in set No. 1.
The Titans out-blocked the Buffaloes 9.0 to 7.0 with the Titans' Leah Maurer leading all players with 5 blocks (4 assists and 1 solo). Neto also shared in three blocks on the night.
Nicki Lindow had 4 blocks for Colorado.
Cal State Fullerton will travel to Las Vegas next weekend and play in the UNLV Tournament with Pepperdine, Eastern Kentucky and UNLV.
