Fullerton, Calif. - Erin Saddler and Kayla Neto combined for 30 kills as Cal State Fullerton handily beat Montana 25-13, 25-8, 25-15 Friday night in the second match of the Crowne Plaza Fullerton Titan Classic at Titan Gym.
The Titans led nearly the entire way with the exception of a brief period very early in the second set. There were just six ties and one lead change in the entire match.
The Titans improved to 2-2 with the offense hitting .357 while notching a whopping 10 service aces, a career-high 6 by senior Genie Francisco.
Montana, dropped to 2-3 and were led offensively by Kayla Reno and Jaime Thibeau, who combined for nine kills. The Grizzlies hit just .020 in the losing effort.
Saddler notched 16 total kills, with 8 of them coming in the first set. Neto blasted 14 kills with 6 in the blowout second set.
Fullerton posted its largest margin of victory in the current 25-point scoring format, beating the Grizzlies by 17 points in set No. 2. Five of Francisco's 6, and 7 of the Titans' 10 service aces came in the second set.
Fullerton setter Andrea Ragan posted her second double-double of the year, with a 39-assist, 11-dig night. Croteau also helped shore up the Titan back court with 13 digs of her own.
Montana's Brittany Brown led all players with 15 digs.
The Titans out-blocked the Grizzlies 5.0 to 4.0 and were led by Neto, who had her hand in three block assists at the net. Ragan, Leah Maurer and Ayana Whitacker backed up Neto with two block assists apiece.
Thibeau paced Montana with three blocks on the night.
There is a full docket of volleyball on Saturday as each team will play two matches each. Montana (0-1) and Colorado (1-0) will face off at 11:00 a.m.. Fullerton (1-0) will take on Georgia State (0-1) at 1:30 p.m. Georgia State will take on Montana at 5:30, and Fullerton will host Colorado in the final match of the tourney.
