Fullerton, Calif. - Behind senior Alyssa Opeka, the Cal State Fullerton Titans picked up their first win of the 2005 season as they downed Marist 3-0 in Game 2 of the Four Points Titan Volleyball Classic at Titan Gymnasium. Fullerton took the match 30-12, 30-19, 30-17.
The Friday night match improved Fullerton's record to 1-1 on the season while Marist dropped their third straight, falling to 0-3.
Opeka collected 13 kills to lead all players and hit a whopping .632 in the three-game match that took just an hour and 15 minutes. Opeka also added 10 digs and two assists to give her 13 total points on the night sharing the game lead with Danielle Hitzeman who also scored 13.
The Titans, as a team hit .547 on the night with six players hitting .444 or better. Along with Opeka, Hitzeman (10) and Sarah Morrison (11) contributed double digits in kills.
Jaime Kenworthy led all the Red Foxes with 9 kills but hit just .130 on the match. Her 10 total points led the Marist squad that hit just .117 against the Fullerton team.
Julie Giessert and Amy Dixon were a blocking duo on the front line picking up three blocks a piece While Morrison and Breanna Trudeau contributed one each. Hitzman lead the way from the line, tallying 3 service aces.
Jackie Poston collected two blocks on the night, and led all players with a solo block.
The Four Points Titan Classic will resume tomorrow as Cal State Fullerton will face UMKC in the 10:00 am match.
