Westchester, Calif. - Westchester, Calif. - Rachael Kidder landed 15 kills to lead No. 11 UCLA (2-0) to a three-set sweep of Cal State Fullerton (0-2) in both teams' second match of the Four Points by Sheraton LA Westside Invitational at the Gersten Pavillion on the campus of Loyola Marymount Saturday afternoon.
The Titans were not able to get their offense going, committing 24 attack errors, five serving errors and nine receiving errors while hitting just .010 for the entire match in their first meeting with the Bruins since 2009. Junior Kayla Neto and senior Leah Maurer paced the Titans with eight kills apiece in the 11-25, 21-25, 25-18 loss.
The Titans snapped a 14-match unbeaten streak against the Bruins two seasons ago with their first-ever win over a ranked opponent, but fell to 1-15 all-time against them dating back to 1980 with the loss on Saturday afternoon.
UCLA didn't fair well on the offensive end either, hitting just .170 as a team, but had far fewer errors, and nine service aces to their credit. Seven of the aces came from junior outside hitter Bojana Todorovic.
Kidder led all players with her 15 kills and added seven digs to the cause.
The Titans did outback the Bruins 7.0 to 6.0, with Maurer leading the charge with two solos and three block assists. The Bruins got four blocks (2 solos) from Mariana Aquino.
The Bruins never trailed in any of the three matches.
The Titans will return to the court in the 5 p.m. match against Connecticut's Quinnipiac University of the Northeast Conference. Both teams are 0-2 in the tourney.
