Los Angeles - Cal State Fullerton (1-0) opened the 2010 volleyball season Friday evening with a 25-16, 25-11, 25-15, sweep of Bucknell (0-1) behind 16 kills from Erin Saddler and 8 from Kayla Neto in the first match of the Luxe City Center Trojan Invitational at the Galen Center hosted by USC .
The Titans improved to 4-0 all-time against the Bison and 18-13 since 1980 in season openers.
Fullerton, which led nearly wire to wire, hit .293 as a team, committing just 13 team errors in 92 swings.
Saddler notched 5 of her kills in set No. 1, 3 in set No. 2 and powered the Titans to the sweep with 8 in the final frame. Sophomore Neto had 8 kills and hit .333 to back Saddler. UNLV transfer Leah Maurer had 6 kills in her Titan debut as did junior Torrie Brown.
Morgan Clark led the Bison's offense with 4 kills. Bucknell hit -.057 as a team and had more team errors (20) than team kills (16).
Neto (4) and Saddler (3) provided much of the Titans' defense at the net providing a combined 7 block assists. Freshman Ayana Whitaker had 2 in her first game in a Titan uniform.
Croteau led all players with 9 digs on the night, finishing 1 shy of tying Vanessa Vella's Cal State Fullerton career record.
The Titans will return to the floor Saturday at noon to face Loyola Marymount and then again at 7:30 p.m. to face the host USC Trojans.
