IRVINE, Calif. – Madeline Schneider led the way, falling just two kills short of the a double-double, but UC Irvine earned a 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-10) win over Cal State Fullerton on Saturday night at the Bren Events Center.
Schneider finished the match with eight kills and 10 digs. Savahna Costello contributed defensively with nine kills, while Aniya Henry posted three block assists. Meagan Carlson and Tyler Fezzey each came up with four kills.
Makenzki Abelman led the way with 17 assists, as she played all three sets.
UC Irvine (21-4, 9-3 Big West) proved why it's in the race for the Big West title, as it raced out to a large lead early and finished off a 25-12 first set win.
The Titans (5-20, 1-11 Big West) showed some fight in the second set, after falling being 4-0 to begin the period, Fullerton battled back to get within one, but couldn't sustain the momentum as it fell 25-19 to fall behind 2-0 overall.
Fullerton then dropped the third set 25-10.
Titans will be back in action at CSUN next Friday at 4 pm PT.
