Florida Prep Player Signs with Titans

FULLERTON, Calif. – Mallory Waggoner, a 2013 graduate of Riverview High School in Sarasota, Fla., has signed a National Letter of Intent, and will join the Cal State Fullerton volleyball program for the 2013-14 season.

"Mallory is an accomplished and explosive 6-foot outside hitter," Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball head coach Carolyn Zimmerman said.   "As a six-rotation player, she is an exciting athlete to watch at both the offensive and defensive ends of the court.  We were so fortunate to add a player of her caliber to our roster.  Mallory will add depth and challenge an already talented group of outside and rightside hitters on the team for a starting position."

Beginning on Friday, Waggoner will join the USA Women's Junior A1 National Training Team Program for 10 days. She will train for five days in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., before participating in the USA High Performance Championships.

The USA HP Championships is an international tournament hosted by USA Volleyball annually and features international teams from a myriad of countries plus Region High Performance teams from all over the United States.

A four-year varsity letterwinner for head coach Steve Haugh at Riverview High School, Waggoner received the Coach's Award as a junior in 2011, and was named team captain for her senior season in 2012.

Waggoner also played on the varsity girls' basketball team winning the hustle and MVP awards, respectively, and played for Coastline Volleyball Club under head coach Laura Tomes.

She was selected to the Florida Regional High Performance Camp
in 2010 and 2011, and additionally in 2011 won silver competing in the Gold Division competing with Team Florida GNY in Tucson, Ariz.

In 2012, Waggoner played for Team USA High Performance in Des Moines, Iowa, and in 2011 and 2012, she played with Team USA High Performance Beach Volleyball in Hermosa Beach, Calif.

Off the court, Waggoner was a member of the International Baccalaureate program and a scholar athlete with a 4.6 grade point average.

Waggoner is not the only Division I athlete in the family as her brother, Garrett Waggoner, is a team captain and defensive back for the Dartmouth football team.

The Titans' 2013 season begins on Friday, Aug. 30 at the UNLV Invitational. Fullerton plays its home opener at Titan Gym on Friday, Sept. 6 vs. Kent State as part of the Fullerton Classic presented by the Holiday Inn of La Mirada.
