FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball program is set to play a 28-match schedule in 2013, and will host the annual Fullerton Classic presented by the Holiday Inn of La Mirada, it was announced by head coach Carolyn Zimmerman on Wednesday.
Fullerton will close the tourney with two matches on Saturday, Aug. 31, starting with Kansas State. The Wildcats (21-9, 8-8 Big XII) are one of two Fullerton preseason opponents that reached the NCAA Division I Volleyball postseason tournament in 2012, as KSU made its 14th appearance.
Fullerton will end the UNLV Invitational against the Portland Pilots of the West Coast Conference.
CSF will return to Titan Gym to play its home opener and host the annual Fullerton Classic presented by the Holiday Inn of La Mirada (Sept. 6-7), welcoming Kent State (Mid-American Conference), William & Mary (Colonial Athletic Association), Gardner-Webb (Big South Conference) and Wake Forest (Atlantic Coast Conference).
"I am very pleased with our 2013 schedule," Zimmerman said. "Our annual Fullerton Classic gives us a look at teams in four different conferences with one hailing from a quality RPI conference. Our preseason provides us with a lot of opportunity for success while challenging some high RPI teams along the way. Overall, we have a great shot at accumulating quality wins both at home and on the road."
Following the Fullerton Classic, the Titans will once again hit the road, traveling to Lubbock, Texas to play in the Lone Star Showdown (Sept. 13-14) against Nevada, Montana and host Texas Tech.
The Titans will play four consecutive matches on the road – their longest stretch away from Titan Gym during the year - returning from Texas to battle USC on Sept. 20 at the Galen Center. The meeting will be the 14th all-time between the two programs, with the Trojans winning all 13 matches.
The programs last met on Aug. 28, 2010 in Los Angeles, as USC won in four sets. The Titans went on that season to win the Big West Conference championship and compete in the NCAA Tournament.
The Titans will host a solo preseason match on Sept. 22 at Titan Gym before Big West play begins as American University will visit Fullerton. In 2012, the Eagles (21-11, 11-3) lost in the Patriot League title game.
Fullerton will open its 16-match Big West schedule on the road at defending conference champion Hawai'i on Sept. 27 in Honolulu.
The Titans will then return to Fullerton on Oct. 4, hosting UC Davis and Cal State Northridge (Oct. 5).
The Titans will end league play hosting the Rainbow Wahine on Saturday, Nov. 30.
Fullerton finished the 2012 season with an overall record of 15-16, and tied for fifth in the Big West Conference standings with a mark of 9-9.
