Neto Sets All-Time Record in Loss
Neto's work of 25 kills brought her career total 1,542, setting the new Cal State Fullerton all-time record. With the addition of 11 digs, Neto recorded her 14th consecutive double-double of 2012, as well as her 10th match of the season with at least 20 kills.
Junior Bre Moreland added 12 kills and 18 digs, while Julie Consani led the Titan (13-13, 7-6 Big West) offense with 50 assists and 10 digs. Senior Gabrielle Dewberry added a match-high 19 kills, while Leah Best led Fullerton with six block assists.
After falling in set one to LBSU (14-11, 9-5 Big West), Fullerton regrouped to claim set two by attacking at a clip of .240, but the Titans failed to maintain the momentum after the break. The 49ers finished the match with an attacking percentage of .230, landing 62 kills and also posted clips of .261 and .241, respectively, in the match's final two sets.
There were seven times the Titans tied the score in sets three and four combined, but not once was Fullerton able to establish an advantage in either set.
The 49ers were led by Chism Okpala's 17 kills (.314), while current Big West Player of the Week Janisa Johnson recorded a double-double of 16 kills and 16 digs. Setter Tara Roenicke was responsible for running the offense with 43 assists, while also dropping in 11 kills. Tiara Wallace added seven block assists.
The Titans return to action on Saturday at UC Irvine with the match scheduled for 5 p.m.
Notes: Kayla Neto has now totaled 1,542 kills in her career at Cal State Fullerton, setting the all-time record for the Titans, surpassing Susan Herman (1986-89) and Brittany Moore (2005-08), who previously held the record of 1,534…Neto has now totaled 17 double-doubles in 2012, including 14 in a row…Neto also has landed at least 20 kills in 10 matches this season… Bre Moreland also recorded her 17th double-double of the year with 12 kills and 18 digs…Julie Consani's double-double of 50 assists and 10 digs was her fourth double-double of the year.
