FULLERTON, CA -
Cal State Fullerton junior Tiffany Mai was named to the All-Big West Conference Second Team in singles while teaming up with sophomore Morgan McIntosh for a spot on the Honorable Mention squad in doubles as the league announced its postseason honor roll on Tuesday afternoon.
The 2011-12 season marked the third consecutive year that Mai has been honored for her singles success after earning honorable mention nods in each of her first two years. Mai competed at the No. 1 position in 20 of the team's 21 matches, posting a 12-15 overall record and an 11-10 mark in dual match play. She led the team with three wins in Big West play and, at one point this season, won six consecutive matches from Feb. 12 to March 7.
Mai's 12 wins overall were second on the team (McIntosh, 17) while her 11 dual match wins were tied with McIntosh for tops on the team.
The duo combined for a 10-15 overall mark in doubles play, including an 8-12 mark in dual match competition -- all at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. The pairing won three of their final five contests and finished second on the team in overall doubles wins and dual match wins. It is McIntosh's first career all-conference honor.
Cal State Fullerton finished 8-13 overall on the season and 1-7 in Big West play, posting the most victories since the Titans finished 13-11 overall following the 2003-04 campaign. Fullerton won its conference tournament opener over UC Riverside before falling to eventual tournament champion Long Beach State on day two of competition.
