Cal State Fullerton Earns No. 7 Seed for Big West Championships
April 20, 2007 FULLERTON, CA - The streaking Cal State Fullerton women's tennis team will open the 2007 Big West Conference Championships against No. 2-seeded and three-time defending champion Long Beach State on Friday (April 27) at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif. The Titans and 49ers will meet beginning at 9 a.m. with the winner to meet either No. 3 Cal State Northridge or No. 6 Pacific in the semifinals on Saturday (April 28) at 3 p.m. The tournament championship will be decided on Sunday (April 29) at 9 a.m. More information on the Big West Tournament can be found by clicking here. Earlier this season in Fullerton, Long Beach State swept the Titans, 7-0, winning all nine matches. After losing 15 consecutive matches, Fullerton has been on a roll as of late, winning its last five straight to gain some momentum heading into the tournament championships. The Titans are led by senior Gina Le, a two-time All-Big West honoree who leads the team with a 15-12 overall record at the No. 1 spot in singles play and a 10-10 mark with teammate Mai-Ly Tran at No. 1 doubles. Le, who was 3-4 against Big West opponents this season, has won her last five straight matches and eight of her last 12. Tran has also been a huge part of the Titans' resurgence, winning eight of her last 10 matches while spending most of her time at the No. 2 singles spot. She is tied for second on the team with Katrina Domela, who has also won her last five-straight singles matches, in singles wins at 11-11 and is tied with Le for first with 11 dual match victories. Fullerton has also been solid in doubles play as sophomores Shelly Injejikian and Cheyenne Inglis posted a 7-8 record together while playing mostly at the No. 2 spot and a 7-11 record overall. Domela and freshman Jerusha Cruz make up the Titans' No. 3 doubles duo, posting a 7-9 mark this season. 2007 BIG WEST CONFERENCE WOMEN'S TENNIS TOURNAMENT |
