FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton sophomore women's tennis player Tiffany Mai was named the Big West Conference Player of the Week on Wednesday after posting a pair of singles wins against Central Coast foes last week.
It was the first career weekly honor for Mai, who improved to 6-9 overall at the No. 1 singles spot for the Titans and 5-10 in doubles play after splitting her two doubles contests with teammate Monica Rodriguez.
She scored the team's lone point in a 6-1 loss to No. 46 Cal Poly, upending the Mustangs' No. 1 player Florence Lehane in a marathon straight-set victory, 7-5, 7-6. Mai then followed that up with another win at UC Santa Barbara, defeating the Gauchos' Natalia Lozano in a tiebreaker, 2-6, 6-4 (10-7).
In doubles play, Mai the teamed with Rodriguez to defeat Jordan Dockendorf and Lozano in Santa Barbara at the No. 1 spot, 8-4, a day after falling to Cal Poly's Lehane and Margarita Spicin, 8-3.
After three straight road matches, the Titans return home for seven straight contests at the Titan Courts, facing Texas State on Wednesday (March 16) and Colorado State on Friday (March 18) to kick things off.
