Inalpulat's Win at No. 1 Lifts Titans Over Riverside

FULLERTON, CA -- - No. 8 seed Cal State Fullerton outlasted No. 7 seed UC Riverside for ninth place at the Big West Women's Tennis Championship, winning a tightly contested 4-3 match at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Friday.

The match came down to No. 1 singles, the only match that lasted three sets. Junior Ruya Inalpulat won for the Titans over UCR's Michelle Beyronneau by a score of 6-2, 1-6, 6-4.

The Titans also won matches at No. 2 and No. 5 singles. Gina Le was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Casey Cross and Caroline Freeman bested Eri Yoshimoto, 7-5, 6-2. The Highlanders captured victories from H.R. Espiritu at No. 3, Catrisha Cabanilla at No. 4 and Colette Chau at No. 6.

The Titans earned the all-important doubles point to go up 1-0 in the match, as Inapulat and Le clinched the point at No. 2 doubles with an 8-4 victory over Beyronneau and Yoshimoto.

Cal State Fullerton concludes its 2005 season 7-14 while UC Riverside ends at 8-13. UCR beat Fullerton, 4-3, in its regular season matchup.
