Women's Tennis Ousted in First Round of Big West Tournament

FULLERTON, CA - The No. 7-seeded Cal State Fullerton women's team had its season come to an end on Friday morning as the Titans were eliminated from the Big West Conference Tournament by No. 2 seed Long Beach State, 6-0, at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif.

Fullerton's five-match winning streak came to an end as the Titans finished their season 6-16. The 49ers, who have won their last 10 consecutive tournament matches dating back to 2004, improved to 15-8 on the year and will face either Pacific or Cal State Northridge in Saturday's semifinals.

Long Beach State clinched the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 slots. The No. 3 duo of Sandra Rocha and Rachael Porsz downed Jerusha Cruz and Katrina Domela, 8-4. Hannah Grady and Jessica Weeks defeated Shelly Injejikian and Cheyenne Inglis 8-5 at No. 2.

The 49ers had little trouble in singles play, winning all of its matches in straight sets. Williams was the first to finish at No. 2, defeating Mai-Ly Tran 6-3, 6-2. Rocha knocked off Inglis 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5, while Weeks clinched the match for the 49ers with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Injejikian.

With the match officially over, both teams continued to play and Long Beach prevailed at No. 6 and No. 1 to make the final score 6-0.
