Titans Bucked by Broncos

March 25, 2009

FULLERTON, CA - Leslie Bullock won her second straight singles match but Santa Clara was too much as a team for Cal State Fullerton women's tennis in a 5-2 non-conference win on Titan Courts, Wednesday afternoon.

CSF head coach Bill Reynolds tried to change the Titans (3-15, 0-5) luck early in the match with a change in the doubles pairings. The normal No. 2 doubles team of Jaycee Cruz and Brandy Andrews was split up for the match against the Broncos (7-6). Cruz paired up with Bullock in the No. 2 spot, and Andrews teamed up with Karina Akhmedova to play in the No. 3 position. The moves didn't work out and both teams lost 2-8.

In singles, Bullock pulled off her second consecutive win in the No. 1 position with a 6-2, 6-4 straight sets victory over Santa Clara's Stephanie Galainena.

Reynolds made another move in singles when he moved Cheyenne Inglis up to the No. 3 position to play Carmen Pham. After dropping the first set 2-6, Inglis pushed the second set to a tiebreaker, but came up on the wrong end of a 5-7 score.

Cruz found the right side of that 7-5 tiebreaker score in her match with Kimi Cox. Cruz won the first set 7-5, and left no doubt in the second set with a 6-1 win.

The Titans hit the homestretch of their Big West Conference Schedule when they play Pacific on Titan Courts, Saturday at 12 p.m.
