Feb. 17, 2010

FULLERTON, CA - Visiting Cal State Northridge swept all nine matches on the afternoon, handing the host Cal State Fullerton women's tennis team a 7-0 defeat on Wednesday afternoon in the Titans Big West Conference opener at the Titan Courts.

After having the start of conference play pushed back due to rains in Southern California, the Matadors swept doubles for the quick 1-0 lead, then took four of the six singles matches in straight sets to close out Fullerton.

The duo of Jerusha Cruz and Karina Akhmedova had the Titans' best chance in doubles play after Northridge had won 8-2 and 8-1 at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. However, the duo fell to the Matadors' Nigora Sirojiddinova and Maria Pistalu, 8-7.

In singles play, both Erin Wiesener and Malorie dela Cruz took sets from their respective opponents, however Whitney Paluch and Anna Yang prevailed in three sets to help clinch the sweep.
