Jan. 24, 2007

FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton senior Mai-Ly Tran and sophomore Shelly Injejikian each posted singles victories on Wednesday afternoon as the Titans fell to No. 57 San Diego, 5-2, in a non-conference women's tennis match in San Diego, Calif.

The Titans lost their third consecutive match to open the 2007 season in falling to 1-3 overall. USD improved to 2-0 overall with the win.

Tran, who posted a win against Hawaii on Monday, won her second straight match, defeating the Toreros' Zoe Taylor in straight sets at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-2.

Injejikian, who also won her singles match against the Rainbow Wahine two days ago, was awarded the win at the No. 5 position after Sophia Vogt was forced to retire due to injury.

Three of the remaining four singles matches were decided in straight sets with the lone exception coming at No. 2 singles where USD's Helene Lindstrand defeated Fullerton's Katrina Domela in a grueling three-set decision, 6-2, 6-7, 7-6.

Cal State Fullerton returns to action on Sunday (Jan. 28) at 11 a.m. as the Titans host San Francisco at the Titan Tennis Courts on campus.
