FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's tennis senior-to-be Karla Portalatin is one of five athletes to be selected to the Dominican Republic team for the Fed Cup. The event is known as the World Cup of Tennis.
Portalatin's squad is in Zone A along with five other teams. Those six teams will compete in Metepec, Mexico on June 18-23. The winners of each pool will play-off to determine which nation from Metepec will advance to Americas Zone Group I in 2019.
Portalatin was a key member of the CSF women's tennis squad that had a historic 2017-18 campaign. It was the winningest season in program history as the team earned the No. 3 seed in the Big West Conference Tournament and recorded their first trip to the final of that tournament.
Portalatin came in clutch for the Titans this season with an overall record of 18-3 in dual match play, recording all 21 matches on court three. She finished the season with an eight-match win streak. Portalatin helped snap the program's 23-match losing streak to rival Long Beach State on April 20 as she had the clinching point for the Titans. The 4-3 win over Long Beach secured the Titans No.3 seed in the Big West standings.
