Fullerton Falls to Cal Poly in Finale

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton women's tennis team completed its regular season with a 4-2 loss to Cal Poly on Monday afternoon at the Titan Tennis Courts.

The Titans (7-14, 1-7 Big West) will remain out of action until Thursday, April 24 when they compete at the Big West Championships at Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif. Cal Poly's record improves to 6-9 overall and 3-5 in the Big West.

Fullerton lost the doubles point, although the team of Megan Sandford and Alexis Valenzuela improved to 5-3 on the year with an 8-7 (8-6) victory over Mika Padmanabhan and Kathryn Webb of Cal Poly in the No. 2 spot.

In singles play, freshman Alexis Valenzuela's 14-match win streak was snapped with a 6-2, 7-5 loss to Jennifer Cornea at the top of the lineup.

On senior day, Morgan McIntosh won her third in a row and improved to 12-9 on the year with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Emily Gibbens at the second spot in the lineup.

Freshman Camille De Leon (12-9) won her second straight with a 6-2, 7-6 (3-0) victory over Padmanabhan at the No. 3 position.

Fullerton seniors McIntosh, Melanie Abella and Rebekah Penner were honored prior to the match.
