IRVINE, Calif. – Senior Tiffany Mai was named the Big West Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week as she helped Cal State Fullerton (6-4, 2-1) extend the program's longest winning streak since 2007.
The No. 1 player in singles and doubles, Mai spearheaded the team's efforts in victories over UC San Diego (5-2) and New Mexico State (6-1).
Mai finished last week undefeated in singles action, and won her lone doubles match as the Titans won their fourth and fifth straight matches. Mai downed Melissa Breisacher of UC San Diego, 6-1, 6-2 in last Thursday's victory against the No. 32 ranked team in Division II.
She also combined with Monica Rodriguez to topple the Triton tandem of Breisacher and Kyra Scott, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles. In Friday's win over the Aggies, Mai whitewashed Jodie Williams 6-0, 6-0 as she improved to 3-6 on the year in dual matches.
This is the Titans second Big West Tennis Athlete of the Week honor in 2013, as Morgan McIntosh earned the distinction on Jan. 30. The award is also the second for Mai during her Fullerton career, previously winning the recognition on March 16, 2011.
Cal State Fullerton returns to action at 10 a.m. on Saturday to host Nevada at the Titan Tennis Courts.
