FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton softball head coach Michelle Gromacki has announced the signing of Emily Vizcarra and Desiree Ybarra to National Letters of Intent to continue their academic and playing careers with the Titans beginning with the 2012 season.
Vizcarra, a 5-6 middle infielder from Lake Elsinore, and Ybarra, a 5-7 pitcher/first baseman from Riverside, both competed for the Corona Angels travel ball squad, helping the club to a third-place finish at Premier Nationals, an 18-under Champions Cup title, and a runner-up finish at the Canada Cup in 2010.
At Lakeside High School, Vizcarra is a three-time All-Sunbelt League First-Team honoree and a two-time All-Area First-Team selection as a sophomore and junior. She led the league with 17 steals and hit a team-high .434 as a freshman and paced the Sunbelt League with a .514 average while scoring 26 runs and driving in 14 more as a sophomore. As a junior, Vizcarra led the Lancers to a 23-3 overall record and a perfect 15-0 mark in league play while hitting .355 with 22 runs scored and 11 steals.
"We are looking forward to Emily contributing to our program right away," Gromacki said. Her best attribute is that she is so versatile in the middle infield, brings a lot of positive energy, and already bleeds blue and orange through and through."
Ybarra is a two-time All-CIF Second-Team honoree out of Riverside Poly High School with three all-league and all-area honors under her belt. She has also been honored as a two-time Cal-Hi Sports All-State Underclass selection.
"We're really excited about Desi coming into our program and we expect her to make an immediate impact," Gromacki said. "Desi is a left-handed pitcher and, though she will see most of her time in the circle, she is also a tremendous power hitter. She's a competitor and loves to win."
