OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - Former Cal State Fullerton All-American and 2004 Olympic Gold Medalist Jenny Topping was one of 18 players named to the 2008 USA Softball Women's National Team as selected by the Amateur Softball Association.
The squad will spend the next year preparing to defend its three gold medals at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, kicking off a 40-city U.S. Tour titled "Bound for Beijing" in February.
The 2008 roster including 12 members of the gold-medal winning team from the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, and 15 members of the 2006 World Championship roster. Three members of the 18-woman roster will eventually be named replacements with the remaining 15 nominated to the United States Olympic Committee, prior to July 1, 2008, as the official roster for the 2008 Olympic Games.
Topping, one of the 12 returning gold medal winners from the 2004 Olympic Games, was a three-time First-Team All-America selection for Cal State Fullerton from 2001-03, hitting a school-record .443 for her career with 33 home runs and 128 RBI, while also setting school records for slugging percentage (.771), on base percentage (.573), and walks (137).
Winner of three Big West Conference Player of the Year awards, Topping also holds seven more single-season records at Cal State Fullerton.
During the 2004 Olympics, Topping saw action in four games for the national team, going 4-for-6 for a .667 average.
The USA Softball Women's National Team has a record of 24-4 over the last three Olympic Games including an undefeated 9-0 record at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, outscoring opponents 51-1.
The team broke 16 records in 2004 including breaking eight of their own records previously set. On top of three Olympic Gold Medals, the U.S. women are eight-time World Champions and two-time World Cup Champions.
