FULLERTON, CA - Former Cal State Fullerton softball standouts Lauren Lupinetti and Jessica Doucette helped Russian Softball Federation club Carrousel BoscoSport to a second-place finish at the 2009 European Cup in Legnano, Italy, earlier this month.
Carrousel won three straight contests to advance to the championship match against the Sharx from Austria, which scored a run on an RBI single in the first inning of a 1-0 pitchers duel to claim the title.
Lupinetti hit .226 in the tournament with seven hits (including a pair of doubles), four runs scored, two RBI, and three walks while starting all 10 games. On defense, she was errorless in 62 chances - tops on the team.
Doucette finished with four hits (including two doubles) in the tournament with a pair of RBI and was 1-0 in five appearances in the circle, posting a 1.40 ERA and a complete-game shutout. In 15 innings, she allowed just three runs on nine hits and struck out eight while holding opponents to a .191 average.
