FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton sophomore outfielder Torrie Anderson was named the Big West Conference Player of the Week on Monday morning after her bat helped the Titans to a three-game sweep of Pacific last weekend.
For the week, Anderson batted .400 with three runs scored, a pair of key home runs and seven RBI as the Titans extended their winning streak to a season-high seven games and swept a conference opponent for the second straight weekend.
The sophomore from Castaic, Calif., opened the series with a pair of hits, but none bigger than her walk-off grand slam with one out in the bottom of the ninth to help the Titans to the 4-0 extra-inning victory. In game two, Anderson walked and scored to give Fullerton the early lead, but it was her two-run home run in the sixth that erased a one-run deficit and gave the Titans a 3-2 lead en route to a 4-3 victory.
Anderson came up clutch again in the series finale, driving home the tying run with an RBI single back through the box in the fifth inning and setting the stage for a three-run sixth as Cal State Fullerton completed the sweep with a 4-1 win.
The hits in each of the games extended her hitting streak to five straight games during which she is batting .412 (7-for-17) with five runs scored and nine RBI. Her two multiple RBI performances also gave her seven on the season, tied with Gonzales for tops on the team.
Cal State Fullerton returns to the diamond this weekend with a key match-up against third-place Long Beach State on the road at the 49er Softball Complex. The two teams meet in a doubleheader on Saturday (April 25) at 1 p.m. with a single-game finale on Sunday (April 26) at 1 p.m.
